Increase in the National Minimum Wage – Effective 1st October 2009


From October the national minimum wage rates will increase from:

From 1st October 2009 you will not be able to include tips, gratuities, cover charges paid to an employee’s via the payroll.

From 6th April 2009 if you do not pay the minimum wage you could incur a penalty by H M Revenue and Customs. The penalty is half the total underpayment for all the employees underpaid from 6th April 2009, with a minimum penalty of £100 and a maximum penalty of £5,000.
